Grove 45 is a very limited production Napa, California Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Grove 45 Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is a venture that started in 2009 when long time friends Nena Talcott and Bonnie Storm agreed to go into business together. Between them they had 45 years of farming experience and had both produced gold medal award winning extra virgin olive oils under different labels. Nena had sold her vineyards and groves in 2006 and she missed being involved in the farming community. Bonnie was getting tired of doing all of the work on her own and was ready to consider shutting down her operation. Fortunately, after a discussion one afternoon, Grove 45 EVOO was born.

The groves are located on Bonnie’s ranch in a remote corner of the Napa Valley. The trees are all Italian Varieties that Bonnie imported from Italy in 1994. The business partners are involved in every aspect of the oil production from driving the tractor to selling and delivering Grove 45 EVOO.

To showcase the excellent quality of Grove 45 EVOO, Nena and Bonnie wanted a package that would be unique. They chose a brushed aluminum bottle with a distinctive embossed pewter label that the pair apply by hand. They also decided to name their new oil after the year they were born, 1945.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has been revered and savored since the first harvest in Crete thousands of years ago. To be called extra virgin an oil must be pressed without the addition of heat or chemicals to extract or extend the oil. It must have a free fatty acid level less than 1%. It must pass an evaluation by a certified tasting panel and have no sensory defects. To be labeled as Estate Bottled oil, 95% of the fruit must come from the same property or groves. The color of extra virgin olive oil can vary from intense green to bright yellow, depending on the variety and time of harvest.

Grove 45 trees were imported from Tuscany in 1994. In 2004, Sicilian varieties were planted in a second grove. Grove 45 is organically hand farmed and harvested. Other than harvest and bottling all work is done by the founders, including hand labeling.  Harvest is usually mid-November, and the fruit is generally 60% green to 40% black. A third of the fruit is pressed by the traditional stone pressing technique, the rest by hammer mill.

Grove 45 Extra Virgin Olive Oil has an intense green color and a fruity, spicy flavor. It is the proud recipient of the California Olive Oil Council Seal of Excellence.

The brushed aluminum bottle protects it from UV rays sustaining its characteristics unaltered until its consumption.
